Scholarship Program

Thank you to everyone who submitted an application.

This year the Pacific Council is pleased to announce the award of five scholarships in the amount of $500 each. Recipients of the scholarship represent the following institutions:
 - Yakima Valley Community College
 - University of New Mexico
 - CSU Channel Islands
 - University of Colorado, Boulder
 - Bellevue College.

Purpose

To provide financial assistance to eligible SCUP members from institutions of higher education to attend the SCUP 2011 Pacific Regional Conference in Seattle, WA, March 20–23, 2011.

Program Description

Participation of institutional members at the SCUP regional conferences and events is a high priority for the SCUP Pacific Region. The Society for College and University Planning (SCUP) Pacific Council recognizes the financial hardships experienced by institutions of higher education in the current fiscal environment. In order to provide support to members interested in continuing their professional training and development and to promote participation in regional activities, the SCUP Pacific Council has set aside scholarship funds to defray the cost of attending the SCUP 2011 Pacific Regional Conference to be held March 20–23, 2011, in Seattle, WA.

Award

Up to five (5) $500 scholarships will be awarded. Preference will be given to SCUP Pacific Region members.

Application Criteria

To be eligible for the SCUP Pacific Regional Scholarship, applicants must provide the following:

Required:

  1. Be a current institutional member of SCUP
  2. Currently work at (or attend, if a student) a higher education institution
  3. Demonstrate financial need (one paragraph self-statement)
  4. Explain desired benefits from attendance (one paragraph)
  5. Optional: A brief statement of support by the institution, such as a supervisor (one paragraph)

Timeline

Applications will be accepted through January 24, 2011. Scholarship applicants will be notified of award status by February 4, 2011.

Application Review and Award Process

The SCUP Pacific Regional Council will review applications and provide recommendations (ranked based on application criteria). Award recipients may elect whether to (1) receive the awards directly or (2) have them paid to their institution/employer, and whether or not to use some of the funds as a waiver of the conference registration fee.
