(CC-02) Adding Value: An Alliance Approach to Evidence-based Design (PDF)
Presenters: Robert Brandt, Associate Partner, Chong Partners Architecture San Francisco; Gordon H. Chong, President, Chong Partners Architecture San Francisco; Steven Doctors, Research Specialist, University of California–Berkeley
Understanding how physical environments affect people enhances the value returned from costly choices made by facility planners. Evidence-based design attempts to improve decision-making but much available information lacks rigor and/or direct applicability. The 2005-06 AIA College of Fellows Latrobe Fellowship was granted to an alliance of architectural firm, university research community and client on the premise that the three perspectives would yield the best data for making design decisions. This session presents the collaborative model, results, benefits and lessons learned

(CC-05) Integrated Planning at Cal State Northridge
Presenters: Diane S. Stephens, Director/Academic Resources, California State University-Northridge; Stella Z. Theodoulou, Dean, California State University, Northridge
California State University, Northridge is revamping its annual academic and budget planning processes to support evidence-based decision-making. All units in the university are currently preparing plans using a template format that encourages linkage between university priorities and unit-level goals. This session will present the challenges faced by the planning team, the anticipated outcomes from the process, and the lessons learned. Find out how the university launched this new effort in a culture that heretofore has not supported centralized planning.
