Embracing Accelerated Evolution and Redefining Viability
Colleges and universities are evolving and changing at an exponential pace that even rivals Moore’s Law. Methods and practices set in place less than a generation ago are quickly becoming obsolete. The traditional modes by which institutional sustainability are achieved are in flux as colleges and universities are faced with increased competition, dramatically decreased governmental support, greater accountability, and increasing regulations.
In order to meet the needs and expectations of current and future students, academic and physical plans must be flexible enough to accommodate new requirements and projections. Out-dated resources and organizational structures, including historic campus structures, programmatic silos, and infrastructure are being rethought, retooled, and reinvented for new technology, new cross-disciplinary collaborations, and new teaching and learning styles.
There is recognition that we need to do things differently in an era of limited resources. The overall economy has forced higher education to re-examine its position and adapt. But there is a significant investment of effort going on right now to discover different and more creative ways to get things done on campus.
This conference will explore ways that our academic and administrative communities are innovating to maintain their institutional sustainability, and address the changing expectations on the higher education system.
