Crossing Boundaries - Making Connections: Removing Barriers to Integrated Planning

The SCUP 2012 North Central Regional Conference will focus on ways to improve the success of institutional integrated planning by removing barriers to collaboration.

When we work smarter—rather than just harder, we solve our problems by crossing organizational and operational boundaries. Institutions that successfully make connections inside and outside of their organizational borders have greater potential to impact and improve their academic, physical, financial, and technological environments.

We invite you to share your success stories around the following themes, and discuss the future of collaboration to foster integrated planning and implementation. Submit a proposal today!

Partnerships:
In a world where partnerships are a necessity for widespread adoption of methodologies, architectures, and technologies, what are the best ways to mobilize an institution and to cross the organizational boundaries to create enthusiastic, sustainable, and successful partnerships?

Mobility:
Handheld mobile computing devices allow students to move freely within and between educational environments and participate actively with information resources. In a world of mobile people and mobile devices, how are we improving this experience for faculty and students?

Smart Institutions:
The word “smart” commonly describes colleges and universities that have integrated some type of advanced technological services to deliver education, to improve the physical environment, or to make it easier for students, faculty, and staff to work and collaborate. What have we done, and what can we do to make our institutions smarter?

We are accepting proposals for the following types of sessions:

Workshop sessions are 3.5 hours in length (which includes 30 minutes for breaks) and present an opportunity for in-depth treatment of a particular subject of interest. Typically, workshops include a combination of presentation, dialogue, and hands-on learning experiences. Workshop presenters are considered experts in the subject area and expected to provide handout materials to attendees. Workshop enrollments are limited in size to facilitate interaction and discussion.

Concurrent sessions will last 60 minutes. They should include no more than 50 minutes of presentation followed by 10 minutes for questions. To improve the chances that your proposal will be accepted for inclusion, please consider the following:

Provide presentation proposals that reflect issues and influences related to the conference theme. Proposals should clearly outline the presentation’s subject and content, exhibits research and analysis of the subjects, and how it applies to the conference theme. Describe who the target audience is. Define the delivery and presentation medium intended, and how you intend to engage the audience attendees in the presentation.
Involve Institutional Participants. Sessions should involve one to three presenters (no more than three). The presenters should include institutional representatives to add credibility, performance, and reference to the sessions. Meaningful involvement by institutional representatives is encouraged but not required for these sessions. You must confirm the commitment of all speakers listed in your proposal to active participation in planning and presenting.
Develop presentations that are relevant to current and future institutional planning parameters. Develop quality presentations that address key issues facing current institutional planning and delivery. Selection committee members seek presentations that are creative, fun, useful and informative. Effective use of graphics, statistical and analytic benchmarking, research, delivery methodologies and use of appropriate media are encouraged for presentations.

The North Central conference program committee will review proposals. Planning committee members shall collectively review presentation proposals for content, depth of subject matter, pertinence, participation, problem-solving methods, transferability, take-away knowledge, presenter expertise, and adherence to conference theme.

Proposal Submission Requirements

Proposals are due by 11:59 PM, EST, March 12, 2012.
All persons identified in proposals will be notified of their status by mid-April 2012.
Presenters are financially responsible for conference attendance and all expenses involved in the delivery of all presentations. There will be no stipends or reimbursed expenses provided to presenters by SCUP or those individuals involved in administering the SCUP North Central Regional Conference.
