Conference ThemeNIMBLE, INNOVATIVE, CUSTOMER-FOCUSED. These are terms not often associated with colleges and universities steeped in traditions. However, emerging trends, demographic changes, economic challenges, and Millennium Generation students are all Challenging the Status Quo on campuses. Leading 21st-century higher education institutions are quickly adapting to these drivers and re-thinking facilities. Join professionals from community colleges, public and private universities, and the design and construction community to discover the new paradigm – Designing Collaborative and Integrated Campus Buildings – on May 13 hosted by School of the Art Institute of Chicago (SAIC). In addition to case studies from a community college, a private university, and a state university, participants will engage in a dialogue about the major issues facing higher education in Illinois with the new executive directors of the Illinois Capital Development Board and the Illinois Board of Higher Education. The program concludes with a diverse panel of experts sharing lessons learned from creative partnerships that have been formed to implement major building projects before, during, and after this challenging economic environment. This one-day program will benefit higher education administrators; campus planning, design and construction professionals; and architects, engineers and contractors who want to optimize the performance of buildings that are newly constructed or that undergo major renovations.
