Minneapolis Highlights
Minneapolis is a vibrant city with that has received accolades from a variety of sources. Money Magazine's "Best Places to Live" expert Bert Sperling called Minneapolis the "Most Fun City in America," and it was named the "Most Literate City" by the University of Wisconsin-Whitewater. It has more theater seats per capita than any city other than New York, and it has the largest enclosed mall in the country, the Mall of America.
Combining worldly sophistication, local charm and hot new trends, Minneapolis has a culinary surprise around every corner. New York's Daily News writes, "Mary Tyler Moore may have put Minneapolis on the map, but these days people are tossing their hats in the air over the vibrant food scene." Stroll around downtown to take your pick of sidewalk cafes. Or head into Minneapolis neighborhoods to sample quaint bistros. Drive down Nicollet Avenue's "Eat Street" and sample extraordinary ethnic variety. From classy New American fare to trendy Sushi joints, your taste buds will never tire. Minneapolis boasts home-grown chefs who are the envy of the world, as well as international transplants who sought out the city for its class and complexity.
"With the Guthrie (Theater) soon to expand into a three-auditorium riverside complex, it will become one of America's nearest equivalent to our own National Theatre in London." - London Guardian. The Minneapolis theater scene is legendary. The city features more than 30 venues and nearly 100 theater groups. Travel guru Arthur Frommer named Minneapolis small playhouses one of "the most interesting tourist attractions in the country." The city is internationally known for Tony Award-winning groups like the Guthrie Theater and the Children's Theatre. The Hennepin Theatre District, with three historic theaters in the heart of downtown, hosts touring broadway shows and national musical acts. And with the Minnesota Orchestra, St. Paul Chamber Orchestra and Minnesota Opera, Minneapolis boasts musical groups that are the envy of larger cities.
