As the capital of Silicon Valley and the eleventh largest city in the nation, San Jose is a colorful, intimate, welcoming, and friendly area that exudes a block party atmosphere and offers a concentration of outstanding restaurants, vibrant night spots, acclaimed museums, and lovely parks within its palm-studded downtown. San Jose was first settled in 1777 and in 1849 was named the first capital of California. San Jose offers a near perfect Mediterranean climate with over 300 days of sunshine a year. Five higher education institutions call San Jose home: San Jose State University, Evergreen Valley College, San Jose Christian College, San Jose City College and International Technical University.
