Membership Categories & DuesThe next dues increase is October 1, 2012. See new rates below.
Membership begins the month the application is received and lasts for a period of one year. For example, a membership processed anytime during the month of October 2011 will lapse on the last day of October 2012. Dues rates are subject to change on the first of October each year. Dues include both national and regional affiliations. There are two main membership categories: institutional and corporate. Within each category, you may join as an individual or as part of a group. Individual Memberships—One person who works for a postsecondary institution, government agency, non-profit association, foundation, or for-profit firm. This membership is:
Group Memberships—A group of individuals who work for the same postsecondary institution, government agency, non-profit association, foundation, or for-profit firm. This membership is:
Retired—An individual who is no longer employed full time and is over the age of 65. Non-transferable and non-refundable. Student—An undergraduate or graduate student enrolled (at the time of application) at a postsecondary institution. Student membership requires proof of enrollment and approval from the director of member relations. Non-transferable and non-refundable. Dues Structure Changes The next dues increase takes effect October 1, 2012. Dues increases are necessary to help fund the development of new member benefits, to provide adequate staffing, and support the kind of infrastructure that allows for a quality delivery of member services. Over the past year, the SCUP Board of Directors, with support from the SCUP Membership Committee, reviewed the dues structure and have made changes that they believe will make it easier for institutions to maintain their participation and membership in the organization. Starting October 1, 2012, institutions with an institutional group membership will be allowed to send non-member staff and students to SCUP conferences at a member rate as well as purchase SCUP products at a member discount. However these non-members will not have access to other member benefits, such as access to the SCUP Cybrary, online membership directory, or access to publications free-of-charge (these will remain restricted to those individuals that are specifically named in the institutional group membership). Dues for the retired category will increase from $75 to $150 as of October 1, 2012. Additionally, to maintain and encourage membership and participation from our institutional members, the board has decided to differentiate between institutional and corporate dues, allowing the dues increase to be lower for institutional individual and group memberships. These changes have no impact on SCUP’s culture of equality, meaning that all members (institutional or corporate) have the opportunity to serve in a volunteer leadership position, vote, and participate in SCUP conferences and events.
