SCUP's Campus Facilities Inventory

In 2003 SCUP began work to fill a significant gap in higher education facilities information. Since 1974 there had been no public or private agency responsible for the comprehensive collection of data, facts, and statistics about the physical size and growth patterns of colleges and universities. This is in spite of a billion dollar industry in construction for higher education institutions. SCUP created the Campus Facilities Inventory (CFI) to address this need.

We're sorry to say that 2007 was the last time we plan to survey campuses on their use of space; at least for the foreseeable future. We were unable to attract a large enough set of volunteers to create meaningful comparisons across institutional types. We continue to work with other associations to explore ways in which we can gather this basic space data, as we believe there is still a need for it in the higher education community.

We are working on ways to ensure confidentiality and make the data that we have collected more broadly available. We hope to have worked out those details before the end of 2008.

Note that only participants will receive a complete data set and that they are asked to ensure the confidentiality of other institution's data when it is provided.

Datasets will NOT be sold to any for-profit organization or released to anyone but the survey participants. All public SCUP reports and summaries will use aggregate data and will not identify specific data regarding individual institutions.
