Schuler Shook’s planners and designers enjoy the collaborative process of designing with our clients in higher education. From initial planning studies to full services for new construction or renovation projects, we are known for our inclusive and comprehensive approach to design as well as our success in helping to create facilities that allow faculty and students to strengthen their programs. We collaborate with campus and facility planners and architects to ensure successful, energy conscious designs now and for the future.
Our experience as theatre planners is appreciated in theatres, concert halls, recital and studio spaces, rehearsal rooms and support spaces. Our architectural lighting designers create daylighting and electric lighting schemes for various campus building types, including libraries, art galleries, lecture rooms, student centers, residence halls, chapels, building exteriors and sites. Our clients include Carleton College, Hamline University, Loyola University Chicago, Macalester College, MIT, Northwestern University, Pacific Lutheran University, Princeton University, Rice University, Texas A&M University, Texas State University System, The University of Chicago, University of Alberta, University of Arkansas, University of Illinois, University of Minnesota, University of Oklahoma, and Valparaiso University.
Schuler Shook is a corporate member of the US Green Building Council with eight LEED Accredited Professionals among our designers. We have been involved in the design of numerous LEED projects under several different classifications including LEED for Schools, LEED NC (New Construction), LEED CS (Core & Shell), and LEED CI (Commercial Interiors).We consider every assignment a unique opportunity to collaborate and develop theatre and lighting designs that are compelling, innovative, and sensitive to the specific needs of each facility and the people who are making use of the practicum space. Our approach has resulted in numerous award-winning projects that have been recognized by the AIA, IALD, IESNA, SCUP, USITT and other organizations. More details are available on our website.
