Firm Description
Elkus Manfredi has earned the confidence of educational institutions across the country for our academic planning and design work. We are known for creating environments that strengthen academic quality, support recruitment goals, and enliven the experience of campus life. Our portfolio includes campus master plans, academic buildings, research facilities, library and performance spaces, and student and faculty housing. In addition, we are leaders in the planning of university-sponsored mixed-use districts that integrate campuses into their surroundings to create stimulating, connected college-town environments — a factor that has become as important as academic resources in attracting faculty and students.
Recent award-winning work includes:
- Harvard University’s Graduate Commons, a LEED Gold rated student residence hall and student neighborhood housing at the campus-edge, recipient of a 2008 SCUP/AIA-CAE Honor Award for Excellence in Planning
- South Campus Gateway at The Ohio State University, a lively new mixed-use district entryway to the OSU campus, winner of a 2007 AIA Ohio Honor Award for Urban Planning
- The Eli and Edythe L. Broad Institute of MIT and Harvard, a state-of-the-art life science research facility that received highest honors in R&D Magazine’s 2007 Laboratory of the Year competition.
- For Emerson College’s campus relocation to Boston’s Theatre District, design of six new and renovated buildings, including two performance projects, which have collectively received 11 industry awards for design excellence, including two Honor Awards from the Boston Society of Architects.
