Pepin Director, Facilities Planning University of Michigan-Dearborn Kate Pepin is director of facilities planning at the University of Michigan-Dearborn (UM-Dearborn), and is an AICP member of the American Planning Association. Pepin has been an active member of the southeast Michigan community and is currently serving on SCUP’s editorial board and City of Dearborn's Transit Oriented Development committee. Her work at UM-Dearborn is focused on creating a cohesive environment that reflects the identity, expressed values, and specific needs of a metropolitan commuter campus. Creating an inviting and accessible campus that welcomes, directs, and informs has been a constant goal in campus projects. She is currently involved in a multimedia standardization project as well as a campus-wide space utilization and planning effort as the campus experiences moderate enrollment growth and needs to accommodate new academic programs. She is a graduate of the State University of New York (SUNY) Empire State College and the University of Michigan. Mark VanderKlipp President Corbin Design Mark VanderKlipp is the president of Corbin Design of Traverse City, MI, a national leader in user-centered wayfinding that has helped educational institutions, healthcare facilities, cities, and corporate clients improve how people access and experience their environments. He also serves as a national board member of the Society for Environmental Graphic Design (SEGD), an organization dedicated to improving the quality and outreach of this discipline. VanderKlipp is a former VP and national board member of the Association of Professional Design Firms (APDF), which focuses on the business of design and design firm ownership. VanderKlipp is a frequent speaker and writer for industry, design, and student events and publications about the advantages and scope of wayfinding projects in both the built and digital environments. He is a 1987 graduate of the University of Michigan. Program ModeratorMark J. Maves Principal Learning & Discovery Mark Maves is an architect and principal of the Learning & Discovery Studio, a firm focusing on the quality, evolution, and diversity of learning places. He has over 35 years of experience as a building designer (primarily of professional schools), functional programmer, and campus planner. He has been fortunate to work on projects throughout the country as well as in the Soviet Union, China, and South Korea. A member of SCUP and the American Institute of Architects (AIA), and a LEED AP Building Design and Construction (BD&C), he received both his AB and master of architecture degrees from the University of California – Berkeley. |
