2011 SCUP Excellence Awards Jurors

The following individuals will serve as jurors for the 2011 SCUP excellence awards program. Jurors are selected for their planning and design expertise from institutions and firms around the country.

Reed Kroloff

Reed Kroloff
2011 Jury Chair

Reed Kroloff is director of the Cranbrook Academy of Art and Art Museum in Michigan. He is a nationally known commentator in architecture and design. He served as dean of architecture at Tulane University during the aftermath of Hurricane Katrina. He has received numerous awards including the prestigious Rome Prize from the American Academy and has served as a juror for many awards programs. He was with Architecture magazine from 1995-2002 and served as editor-in-chief from 1998-2002. This is his second year serving as a SCUP juror.

 
 Collette Crepell

Collette Creppell
2011 Juror

Collette Creppell, AIA LEED AP, is the university architect and director of campus planning at Tulane University, a position she has held before and in the aftermath of Hurricane Katrina. She served previously as the executive director of the City Planning Commission for the City of New Orleans. A designer and urban planner, she also spent many years directing her own architectural firm, teaching as a clinical and adjunct assistant professor, and lectures frequently. This is her first year serving as a SCUP juror.

 
Carl Elefante

Carl Elefante, FAIA, LEED AP, is Quinn Evans Architects' director of sustainable design and a principal in their Washington, DC office. He has built an extensive body of work that has defined and shaped the field of sustainable preservation by blending historic preservation with sustainable design practices. He is a strong proponent of collaboration, is an advocate for broad thinking within the green building movement, and volunteers on national advisory committees. This is his second year serving as a SCUP juror.

 
Jennifer Jones

Jennifer Jones
2011 Juror

Jennifer Jones, RLA, ASLA, is a principal with Carol R. Johnson Associates. She has directed a wide range of site master planning and design efforts on over 35 college and university campuses, several schools of business and over 20 US consulates and embassies around the world. Her college and university work includes comprehensive landscape master plans, landscape portions of multidisciplinary master plans and specific building-related site designs. She is a frequent lecturer, juror and the recipient of several prestigious awards. This is her second year serving as a SCUP juror.

 
Dave Lenox

David P. Lenox
2011 Juror

David Lenox, AIA, is the university architect and director of campus planning and design at Stanford University where his focus is on establishing a framework for continued physical growth of the campus to support the mission and vision of the university. He has led development of a campus master plan outlining strategies to restore the original Olmsted campus plan and has worked with schools and departments to create a system of district plans and new buildings. He was previously a principal at an Ohio firm where his work focused on architectural design in the corporate and transportation markets. This is his second year serving as a SCUP juror.

 
Krisan Osterby

Krisan Osterby
2011 Juror

Krisan Osterby, RLA, is a senior campus planner with Perkins+Will in their Minneapolis, MN, office. She has more than 20 years of national and international experience in the planning and development of memorable and sustainable campuses, ensuring that campus facilities, grounds and infrastructure tell the story of strategic planning, academic and student life programs, campus context and community initiatives. Her skills include analyzing land and building use, designing open space, coordinating wayfinding and circulation and formulating campus design principles that strengthen image and identity. She is a frequent presenter, and demonstrates leadership and planning expertise in numerous SCUP leadership roles. She previously served as chair of SCUP’s Award Committee, and this is her first time serving as a SCUP juror.

 
 Jim Richards

James Richards
2011 Juror

Jim Richards, FASLA, is a national award-winning designer, writer, illustrator and educator whose work has included town planning, urban design and landscape architecture for over 30 years. He is co-founder and principal of TOWNSCAPE Inc. and previously was a design principal and studio director at JJR/inc. He serves on professional advisory boards and as a visiting lecturer at numerous universities. He was awarded ASLA’s Bradford Williams Medal in 2008 for his internationally published articles that rethink and update rapid freehand sketching as a creative tool for the digital age. This is his first year serving as a SCUP juror.
