University Intergenerational Living/Learning Centers‹Innovative Campus Communities

Presenter(s): Peter J. Cornell, United Development Corporation; Michael Scott Rudden, The Saratoga Associates; Sanford J. Zimmerman, University of Albany
Convener: Ken Higa, O'Neal, Inc.

University of Albany envisions an Œintergenerational residential lifecare community¹ for undergraduate/graduate students, student families, daycare center, alumni, and retired faculty sharing common social, educational, and recreational amenities. After selecting sites, forging private partnerships, hiring designers, seeking state land transfer approval, addressing environmental habitats, and securing finances, construction began for Phase One: 1,200-bed undergraduate residences for occupancy in Fall 2002. Stakeholders will share and solicit ideas and lessons learned relevant to institutions considering a similar challenge.

This knowledge resource from SCUP is a concurrent session presented at the Society's thirty-seventh annual, international conference and Expo, SCUP–37, in San Diego, CA (USA), in July of 2002.

Audiocassettes of this and other SCUP–37 sessions are available for purchase here.

Due to our concern for the privacy of members of the face-to-face audiences at SCUP–37, our digital archives of SCUP–37 presentations end at the beginning of the question and answer portion of each session. Whenever we can, we not only provide streaming audio but the slide show or visual presentation used by the presenters, as well.
