Lean, Mean & Green‹Tulane¹s Energy/Facilities Leadership into the 21st Century

Presenter(s): Gregory Chlup, Tulane University; Ted H. Moses, Moses Engineers, Inc; Lenny Zimmermann, Flack + Kurtz
Convener: Trisha Clark, Syska Hennessy Group

In the face of changing energy costs and availability, Tulane¹s facilities team focused intently on its mission to maintain a reliable infrastructure while keeping utility costs to a minimum and meanwhile, managing a limited budget for capital expenditures. This case study presents Tulane¹s identification, evaluation, and implementation of energy conservation measures coupled with incorporation of a co-generation facility producing electricity from available steam, thereby gaining independence from the ³grid.² Participants will gain insight into the team approach and take home tools for their campus programs.

This knowledge resource from SCUP is a concurrent session presented at the Society's thirty-seventh annual, international conference and Expo, SCUP–37, in San Diego, CA (USA), in July of 2002.

Audiocassettes of this and other SCUP–37 sessions are available for purchase here.

Due to our concern for the privacy of members of the face-to-face audiences at SCUP–37, our digital archives of SCUP–37 presentations end at the beginning of the question and answer portion of each session. Whenever we can, we not only provide streaming audio but the slide show or visual presentation used by the presenters, as well.
