2006 SCUP/AIA-CAE AwardsThe Village at 115Case Western Reserve University with Goody Clancy Click to view a pdf presentation of the project. The Village at 115, at Case Western University's new apartment-style housing represents a significant departure from traditional student housing. Apartments built for upper-class students, range in size, and include bedroom, bathroom, full kitchen, living room, and storage closet. Apartments are clustered in seven houses; each house has a main entrance, a grand staircase, a two-story great room with a fireplace, community kitchen, information kiosk, and study rooms. The design of the village, not only includes housing, but responds to the need to create a sense of community for the entire campus, and combines residential spaces with athletic areas. The seven houses are arranged around new athletic fields for football, soccer, track and field. This has created a vibrant new landmark setting for the student experience. In addition, the Village Clock Tower provides a library on the top floor, and a Starbucks café, fitness center, and convenience store on the ground floor. |
