University of Catalyst: Rebuilding Cincinnatti's Uptown

University of Cincinnati with Goody Clancy

Meshing campus and city was the subject of this innovative direction. Over the last 16 years, the University of Cincinnati has pursued an alternative approach, integrated planning, one based on partnerships that share control with the community, with the university investing directly in the health and well being of its neighborhood. In this model, community development is an essential institutional commitment. The University of Cincinnati led an institutional alliance, or consortium, to work with the City and surrounding communities to plan for institutional growth, enhance quality of life for surrounding neighborhoods, create an economic engine for the city as a whole, and integrate institutions into the life of the residential and commercial areas. The Uptown planning effort has successfully laid the groundwork for a new era of city, community, and institutional collaboration to meet both institutional and civic goals.
