The Candler Library beautiful restoration and addition illustrate continued campus planning themes of restoration, renovation, adaptive reuse, and additions to preserve valuable historic buildings. This restoration of an architecturally significant campus icon, the Candler Library remains the symbolic heart of the university. The library is located at the end of a formal quadrangle and now encircled with later campus growth. The new rear addition opens the back of the library to create a new entrance and welcoming façade facing the newer part of the campus. The restoration included, reopening of covered areas, re-engineering of mechanical systems, integrating new technology, and adding needed classrooms, administrative space and faculty offices. |
