2006 SCUP/AIA-CAE AwardsRecognition for Master Plan UpdateCalifornia State University Monterey Bay with Moore Iacofano Goltsman, Inc. Click to view a pdf presentation of the project. CSUMB Master Plan Update is a model re-use plan: an innovative community-based planning approach that will transform a former military base into a vibrant, livable campus. Key elements of the plan are restoring and enhancing the natural landscape and incorporating universal design and sustainable development practices. Formerly home to the Fort Rod Army base, CSU assumed control of the 1,387 acre property after the base was closed in 1992. This campus plan is designed to fundamentally transform the former military base's rigid and grid-based land use and circulation patterns. The plan development began with information gathering and analysis in the areas of social factors, environmental factors, political factors, and economic factors. Finally, the recommended plan identified the "heart" of the campus as the Meadow and Crescent, an arrangement of buildings and landscape incorporating the academic programs. The Essence of this master plan has been to envision the physical form of an academic community to guide future development and improvements. |
